Samskaras

The theme Samskaras deals with important milestones of life. Our ancestors designed ingenious landmarks involving ceremonies and prayers to mark key transitional stages in life. These have evolved as ceremonial processes, and continue to be observed in orthodox sections of Hindu societytoday.

First is the ceremony of namakarana – giving an suitable name to the new born (within 10 days following birth). Then follow several events – jatakarmaannaprashana– first solid feed to the child (3rd month), karna-vedha Ear-piercing (6thmonth), choodakarma– first hair cut (1 year), Upanayana, wearing the holy thread and initiation in first Vedic prayers ( 8th year). This is when a boy between the age of 8 and 10 are initiated and introuced to the Vedic way of living.
